| Despair |
[May. 29th, 2009|06:19 pm] |
Sometimes the feelings of despair are overwhelming, and it's hard to see anything positive. Sometimes these feelings are merely biochemical, sometimes they're not. I wrrote this some time ago. It's how i feel tonight. BTW, for those who might be interested, its a sonnet written in iambic pentameter.
On Suicide
If i could sleep tonight and never wake And find the peace that feeling nothing brings I'd lay my head down now and gladly take The wine of which oblivion sweetly sings
This world of form could not be made by us For life seems cruel, brutish and too short And death comes like a thief, always victorious And love but this illusion that we sought
If that is true then God is surely dead And in His place some crazed madman reigns Who cares not that we suffer, but instead Laughs gleefully at us and all our pains
So come, sweet darkness, my remaining friend Let's celebrate together this sad end |

| A funny thing happend..... |
[May. 4th, 2009|09:20 pm] |
....on the way to the club the other night. Dylan and i were going out dancing the other night. We were just on our way out of the little piece-of-shit-redneck town we live in, and there in the rear view mirror were the dreaded flashing lights! What the fuck! i thought, and not really looking forward to this encounter as i was dressed in girls' clothes at the time. Anyway, i pulled over and waited or the officer as i rolled down the window. "What did i do, officer?" i asked soooooooooo sweetly. "You failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign, Ma'am" he said. "Can i see your license and proof of insurance?" I dutifully handed over the requested documents and waited. The officer looked at my drivers license for what seemed like ages and said "That's not you, Ma'am!" "Oh yes it is" i replied. Well, he looked at the licence and then looked at me and then said "So why haven't you changed your license, Ma'am" "Because i haven't changed my address. Officer" "No", he said, "Why does your license still say male, Ma'am?" So i explained to him that i didn't dress up as a girl all the time. And he kind of laughed, and said "Well. it's the 2000s i guess. It's confusing" And i agreed and said taht it was confusing for me too. And then somehow, i guess because of my accent, we started talking about England, and how strong the beer was there. Anyway, i was surprised how nice he was, especially considering it's a little Texas country town. And he kept getting confused calling me "Ma'am " and then "sir" and finally not even giving me a ticket. Maybe things can change.... even in Texas. |

| Torture and the Religious Faithful |
[May. 4th, 2009|01:27 pm] |
I read an atricle in TPMCafe about the different political positions held by "observant" people of faith and "non-observant" people of faith. It showed that non-observant people were much closer to the national figures on issues like abortion than the observant. One of the most striking was the fact that regular church-goers, especially white evangelical ones supported the use of torture by an almost 2 to 1 majorty! A survey of Facebook members uncovered the following reasons:
TOP TEN REASONS WEEKLY CHURCH GOERS FAVOR TORTURE:
10. Using those hard wooden kneelers at Sunday Mass seems like a worse "stress position" that used at Guantanamo.
9. Due to today's short attention spans, most bible study classes never make it past that "eye for an eye" stuff in the old testament.
8. Its not just terrorists. If questioned further they also believe that Catholic Bishops should be tortured to disclose locations of pedophile Priests that have been given a "second chance".
7. Waterboarding seems pretty mild compared to the last 40 minutes of "Passion of the Christ".
6. Believes it was Jesus who said "The ends justify the means'.
5. Infidel terrorists won't make the cut on Rapture Day anyway, so what's a little more pain?
4. A lot of those regular Catholic Church goers grew up eating fish sticks on Fridays. Now that's torture!
3. Spanish Inquisition nostalgia is a powerful thing.
2. Thought that whole "turn the other cheek" thing referred to CIA's face slap questioning techniques.
1. Got confused and asked themselves WWCD? (What would Cheney Do?) rather than WWJD? |

| Death of a Friend |
[May. 2nd, 2009|12:53 pm] |
I heard that an old friend of mine had died this week. His name was Jonathan Moore. He was a comic, and was one of the funniest people i had ever seen in my life. He had appeared on The Tonight Show with Carson, and on the Letterman Show, but real success eluded him throughout his life, partly because he was so much a victim of his own self-destructive behaviour.
He was the best man at my wedding in California to a Japanese American girl, and brought the house down (mainly Japanese Americans) when he opened the best man's speech with "All Blitish Plisoners will build a blidge!"
He hurt no one in his life, except himself, but he made a lot lot of other people's lives better by making them laugh. He was a good and loyal friend, and never gave up trying to do new and different things until his death, alone on a beach in Malibu, on the 27th of last month.
This world was a better place for having had Jonathan Moore as one of its inhabitants, and i miss him terribly already. Keep making people laugh, Jonathan, wherever you are. I love you. |

| Dick Durbin's Defeat. |
[May. 2nd, 2009|12:31 pm] |
On Friday, Dick Durbin's bill in the Senate to allow homeowners the same protection in bankruptcy as that allowed to owners of investment properties was defeated by 45 votes to 54, including the defection of 15 Democratic votes.
This vote represents a clear and dangerous failure of our democratic system to overcome the oligarchy of the financial sector. All those who voted no on this bill were recipients of large contributions from the banking lobby, and they should be punished by the electorate in the primaries (for the Democrats who voted no) and in the general (for the Republicans).
In his book "American Theocracy", Kevin Phillips warned us 3 years ago about the entrenched power of the financial sector, and this is a prime example. The irony is that the banks may have won this battle, but they will have contributed to their loss in the war. For their long-term success and profitability will not be helped by further impoverishing and rendering homeless the many homeowners who hold mortgages on these properties. Foreclosure will result in an immediate mark-to-market of these distressed assets, as their value on the open market will not be any higher than if they renegotiated the terms of the mortgages. On the contrary, they would get less for them on the open market, than if they eased the terms for the homeowners, who have a much greater incentive to stay in the homes than a new buyer, and would probably pay much more that open market price or the homes, if they were given a chance to renegotiate the terms, including even a cram down of the principal amount.
The cost to the overall economy of huge swaths of empty, foreclosed, and consequently decaying homes, together with homeless families unable to, in many cases, even work productively, is even higher. This is a shameless and, ultimately, senseless position on the part of the banking lobby. The fact that 1 in 9 homes are now empty, together with the rising tide of homeless American citizens is total insanity, and one for which the whole of the elected representatives of the people should be ashamed. |

| Jim Cramer |
[Mar. 22nd, 2009|09:11 pm] |
One of the people who have come to the fore in recent days is this character, Jim Cramer, of CNBC's mad money. And, of course, he got dragged all over the carpet in a beautiful and elegant way by Jon Stewart last week. I have been saying for about 3 years now that our economy was completely unsustainable in its current fashion. One of my big influences in this, as i have mentioned, has been Kevin Phillips, who is certainly not some tree-hugging, commie-atheist-faggot-liberal-pinko like me. Well, the collapse has happened, yet Jim Cramer seems completely oblivious to the damage that the financial services sector has done to the economy, nd what his own part in it has been. Anyway, i discovered he has an LJ page (http://community.livejournal.com/cramermadmoney/) and in one of his postings, i made a response. Here is my response:
Of course, Mr. Cramer, your description of "wealth destruction" is completely fallacious. The actual "wealth" is still intact. It is the value of that wealth that has declined. Both you, your friends in the financial services community, and the country as a whole need to understand that, for the most part, the financial services industry doesn't make wealth at all. It makes money, which is frofoundly different. Wealth is made by the production of goods, services, and raw materials.... and incresingly, by intellecual property. To an extent, financial services help in the creation of that wealth by provided a means of lubricating and facilitiating the means of poduction and exchange. Above that necessary level, though, financial services are nothimg more than parasites on the rest of us who actually produce the "real" wealth in this economy. At a current level of 22% of our economy, the parasitism exhibited by the financial services industry has become totally unsustainable, which is why we are in the predicament that we are now. Please stop blaming Obama fo the mess that you and your friends created. He has a difficult job ahead of him, trying to unravel this mess. I really hope he is doing the right thing. I suspect that he is on the right track. But you and your friends in the financial news business need to stop griping at him for every little thing, take some responsibility for your own mistakes, and when you think Obama is wrong, for goodness sake, offer some constructive criticism and alternative solutions, instead of just tearing him down all the time. There are people in this country who have worked hard, played by the rules, and are truly suffering as result of this mess. If you cared as much for ordinary people as you do for the rich and privileged, you might have a completely different take on what has been going on. |

[Feb. 15th, 2009|08:19 pm] |
Bill Moyers was great on Friday. He had on a past chief economist for the IMF (International Monetary Fund), who said that the extreme dislocation in our financial system is very reminiscent of similar crises in third world, or emerging markets economies. He also pointed out that the root cause of all this is the power of certain oligarchies: in this case, the CEOs of the big banks. He went on to talk about the " stress test" that Timothy Geithner, the new Treasury Secretary, plans to do with these banks. In his opinion, he said that he thought that all the big banks would fail this stress test, and, when they did, they should be given, say, 60 days either to raise enough private equity capital to make themselves solvent, or the FDIC should then step in and "take their banking credentials away" because of insolvency. This would mean that the government would take over the banks, and bring them gradually back into solvency, so that they could be broken up, and sold back to private equity firms. This would also mean that the oligarchs would almost certainly lose their jobs and positions of power. It would also mean that the various banking organizations that would come about due to the breaking up of the big banks would no longer be "too big to fail". After all, as one of the congressional committee grilling the eight CEOs of the largest banks sid: "If they're too big to fail, then they're too big to exist". Sounds like a good plan to me. We might even make money out of it as well! |

| Dinner with Dylan |
[Feb. 15th, 2009|06:53 pm] |
I really wanted to have a lovely Valentine's day dinner with Dylan, coz i know it means a lot to him. So, i made a reservation at one of the best restaurants in Austin... Chez Zee, which is a kind of American bistro. And i wanted him to feel really special, so i dressed up in my best boy clothes, with a jacket and even a tie, and very very little make up, and off we went. We decided to share a starter which was a mozzarella cheese thing layered betweeen a kind of spinach mousse. And then dylan had a pasta dish of chicken cooked in Marsala wine with artichoke hearts, which he'd never had before. And i ordered him some wondeful 5 year old Cabernet to drink with it. The resturant was wonderful, with all different kinds of people there. Next to us was table of 4 lesbian girls (2 couples) who seemed to be also having a wonderful romantic time. They were a little unusual in that the two femme girls seemed to be an item and the two "butch" ones, were another item. And there was another lesbian couple on another table near us as well. As far as i could tell, we were the only gay couple, but there might have been more. In another city, in a more civilized part of the country, like, say Massachusetts , or California, this would not have been that unusual. But here in Texs, even in liberal Austin, it was, and it made us feel more prt of the community, knowing that there were gay couples going out and just doing normal things, like having dinner together. We also shared a dessert, and i ordered a Sauternes for dylan to drink with it. (yes, i was being all butch, and doing things like suggesting and ordering wines). This was also the first time that dylan had ever had a Sauternes, and i think he really liked it. Anyway, it was just such a lovely dinner, and really romantic. Dylan looked extremely cute and pretty, and i was so proud to be out with him that night. I had a really good time, and i think dylan did as well. |

| The end of a dismal year. |
[Jan. 4th, 2009|07:48 pm] |
Well, i must say, i am happy that 2008 has finally ended. By any measure it was a dificult year, both for me personally and for the country as a whole, of which i shall talk more in a further entry. But at least we beat the crap out of CitiBank, although they have not yet, despite certified mail correspondence, together with the money they asked for, acknloweged that act, which is rather strange. Somehow, i suspect that it is not that CITI never sleeps, but more that CITI never quite wakes up!
Christmas turned out this year to be somewhat difficult as well, as i managed to get sick right on Christmas eve, the beginning of a multiday treck to Waco, Houston and Louisiana, where dylan's brother was getting married. And so we arrived back in austin on the 28th, with me still feeling totally sick, and having to go to work the following morning. I finally got some time off late on new Year's eve, and decided that i was not going to go back to work again until tomorrow.
Dylan and i went out for New Years Eve, and we both dressed up as girls this time. But neither of us really felt much like partying, so, shortly after midinight, we came home again, and, other than a short sortie out to see Milk, we have been quietly at home, acheiving very little and just getting some rest.
By the way, Milk was wonderful, and i was extremely moved by it. I had forgotten how vicious the Anita Bryant campaign had been, and i felt rather guilty that i had not been more active during that period. But the movie was inspiring, and i have vowed that this year, i am going to become activist again, maybe in fighting for transgender rights, although, to be honest, i feel most strongly about the economic problems in our economy.
Dylan got me some wonderful presents for Christmas, including a couple of very sexy sweater dresses that i totally adore. However, i must admit that i felt a little self-conscious opening them in front of his parents. He also gave me the cutest knee highs, which, as you might know are one of my little clothing fetishes. And his parents gave me a set of "the grabber".. those tools which take out old and stripped screws. And i have to tell you, they work like magic. I am a big fan of the late night infomercials which peddle all these little gadgets and inventions. Now most of them aren't much good, but some of the are fantastic, and eventually become part of our daily tolls and gadgets. When i used to do sound and music for informercials back in Los Angeles, i got to see a lot of these tools. One in particular was something called the Daisy, which ended up being the immersion mixers you see in kitchen gadget departments today. Another was the RotoZip, which eventually also became available in stores and even won the "tool-of-the-year" award.
And, or course, i got lots of books, which is always my favorite thing to get at Christmas, and i have at least a month's solid reading to get through now.
Happy New Year, everyone

| Drag Kings |
[Dec. 14th, 2008|06:20 pm] |
Dylan and i went to a Drag King show on Friday night. I really loved it. It was soooooo much better than any of the drag-queen shows here in Texas. Most of them are really pathetic... just a bunch of pretty (or not-so-pretty) t-sgirls prancing around miming to Diana Ross songs in various over-the-top gowns and dresses.
But the drag king show was brilliant.... funny and well choreographed. But i was sad that there were so few xy persons there, and i seemed to be the only boy in girls clothes there. There doesn't seem to be much interaction here, in texas at least, between the gays and the lesbians. And i often hear vagina-phobic comments uttered by gay men who should know better. I have come to the same conclusion about many gay men, as i have about many feminists who are such obvious and unashamed man-haters..... they are as intolerant and bigoted as the very people in the mainstream, especially the Christians, whom they criticize so much.
Anyway, i like lesbians....a lot. And funnily, they seem to like me too, or some weird reason. When i am dancing in my girls' clothes at our favorite little gaybar, it is the lesbians, who, more often than not, come over and dance with me, and, a lot o the time, kind of seem to want to pick up on me...... which, i can tell you, is way cool!. I met one o the members of the troup after the show, and we swapped email addys. I told her i would really like to write for them, and maybe record some tracks for them so that they could have some original music for their next show. We'll see what happens. |

| We won! |
[Nov. 21st, 2008|09:25 pm] |
The 2 year battle with our mortgage company is finally over, and we won! I walked into court today with my stack of letters and documents, and when the judge called me and their lawyer over to the desk in front of him, she (their lawyer) immediately asked for a stay, and said that they were making me an offer. She then handed me the offer, which was waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than i had either asked for or certainly expected. They eliminated the fees, rolled in the arrears (all but $2,100.00) and reduced the rate all the way down to 3.7% fixed for the life of the mortgage. I felt that i had a good case. I had kept all the correspondence, sent everything to them for the past 6 months via certified mail, and refused to deal with them any more via the phone. And i had continued to keep making filings in court every time they filed against me. But I couldn't believe the way that they totally capitulated against the defense i had put up... all, i might say, without the help of any lawyer. I had tried lawyers before, and all they did was cost me money and make matters worse. So, tonight, i can truly breath free for the first time in over 2 years. But i feel terribly sad for all those who have lost their own homes. And it's all so unnecessary. These foreclosures cost the banks , on average, between $60,000 and $70,000 each time in fees and costs. Yet they make it so fucking hard for the homeowners to come to the table and work with them. This mortgage mess is the result of many factors, which i have talked about in the past, and will continue to talk about more. But it makes me so fucking angry that so much of this could be avoided, and with real benefit to both parties... both the homeowner and the lender. And yet, the first time someone stands up to these banks and says that they are not giving up without a fight, they totally collapse and give the store away instead. Not that i am going to tell them that i would have taken a much worse deal! They made me the offer, and they put me through a fucking hell for 2 years. So i am taking it and putting the rest of the money somewhere else... just in case! Anyway, dylan and i are going to savor this win of ours for tonight, and have a lovely evening alone togethe. Tomorrow, we might go out and do some serious slutting around. But for tonight, we just want to be together and enjoy the peace that has returned to our lives again. |

| The End of Conservatism |
[Nov. 8th, 2008|04:22 pm] |
Today, in the Wall Street Journal, ex-republican minroity leader, Dick rmey, was writing about how the Republicans need to regroup, and re-define conservatism.
Well, I have news for you, Mr. Armey. Conservatism as we know it is dead. Dead as a dodo... dead as life in Texas... dead as the flaccid penises of those old men who sometimes share my bed! (hah hah). The fact is, since the "big free market experiment" started with the Reagan revolution at the beginning of the 80s, real median family incomes have remained static, except for a few blissful years during the Clinton administration..... not that Clinton was a true progressive. But at least he wasn't a laissez-faire idealogue like the this current crop of bozos. So ordinary people are working harder and not getting any further head. Meanwhile, the huge increases in their productivity, particularly since the growth on computer technology, together with the increases in GDP, have not gone to the workers who created this wealoth, but to an increasingly small and powerful cadre of capitalist class people who have seen both their income and wealth increase exponentially during the same time.
Neither can the conservatives make any claim to fiscal responsibility. Public debt has increased from 1 Trillion at the end of the Carter yers, to 11 trillion today. All of this during Republican administrations, for the national debt actually did decrease during the Clinton years. An d to add insult to economic injury, during this same time, The United States has gone from the world's largest creditor to the world's largest debtor. Concurrently, the state of our infrastructure, once the envy of the world, has degenerated to the point where it is in shambles and is making it harder and harder to compete on the world stage.
Even more worrying is the act the private debt has increased at twice the pace of the increase in public debt. This makes all our large corporations much more vulnerable to downturns, and makes our citizens increasingly unable to pay their bills. For much of this time, this was masked by the increase in housing prices, and citizens could borrow against the increased value of their homes. Now house prices have fallen, and they are faced with, in effect, the total loss of their equity, and they still cant pay their bills. In effect, this has become the greatest transfer of wealth from the working people and retirees to the rich in the history of this country. During this same period, the financial services sector of the economy has gone from 14% to 22% today while manufacturing has dropped from 23% to 12%. And remuneration to those workers in financial services has skyrocketed, thus tapping all our talent who could be working in really productive sectors and turning them, effectively into professional gamblers who sit all day in front of computer screens, playing poker with other people's money.
No wonder our auto manufacturers can't compete in the world. All our best and brightest have been lured into being parasites manipluating the means of exchange, instead of revolutionizing our auto sector.
No, Mr. Armey. Conservatism is over. But this is not the failure of capitalism: it is the failure of the capitalist class who have raided our national wealth to pursurue their short-term selfish goals.
I don't know what this new administration can do, or what they should do, specifically. But, if they do not come up with policies that take into account economic morality and fairness, they are doomed to fail. All i know is that we can never go back to the insane and immoral ideas of Milton Friedman, Ayn Rand, and those criminals and traitors we have come to know as the Neocons. |

| Me and the OPM |
[Oct. 20th, 2008|05:59 pm] |
(Office of Personel Management)
Dear Concerned Citizen, Thank you for your recent e-mail concerning U.S. Senate Bill 2532. While this legislation you reference only applies to same-sex domestic partner benefits, OPM’s concern would be the same if one were to also add opposite-sex domestic partners to the legislation as Senator Collins of Maine has urged.
The concerns OPM has expressed about potential fraud under S.2532 center on how the defined benefit retirement plan for Federal employees would be administered. Marriage, for instance, cannot be dissolved without legal action, which has consequences and can create significant spousal retirement benefit/survivor annuity obligations that can be judicially enforced. Under this bill, the only action a Federal employee would need to take to terminate a retirement benefit to a domestic partner is a signed statement of dissolution. OPM would then be required to rely on such a statement without a formal legal proceeding and determination this could increase the possibility for fraud and put our fiduciary responsibilities to benefit recipients and taxpayers at greater risk.
Dear Mr. Secretary
Thank you for your response. Has it occurred to you that amendments could be offered to the bill that would address your concerns about fraud? Fraud, after all, is an issue in any program, and so safeguards and penalties always have to be devised to reduce the possibility of the occurrence of fraud.
Please note, that the option of marriage is not yet an option to gay couples.; So, under the 14th amendment, don't you think that you have some responsibility to ensure that all couples are treated equally under the law?
Of course, marriage, as it is now constituted in American law, is an intrusion of religion into government policy, and is thus, clearly, a violation of the 1st Amendment. But that may be another issue.
Kindest Regards,
Jimmy Horowitz |

| Lesbians |
[Oct. 19th, 2008|01:27 pm] |
After our disastrous night at the comedy club last night, Dylan and I went to our little watering hole, 'Bout Time, to hang out, flirt and, for me at least, to dance a bit. I always have fun there. I like to dress up in girls' clothes when i go there, coz i always seem to get lots of attention when i go out dressed that way. And, i guess, i am just another little attention whore at heart.
But i am noticing more than more that it is not so much the guys who hit on me, but the lesbians. Whenever i go out on the dance floor, there are always at least one or two, but usually more, cute lesbian girls who come out on the floor and join me, and make friends. Now, i'm not complaining. It's always fun to get attention, and, anyway, i have always thought that lesbians were hot.
I'm just wondering why they would choose to come out and hit on me: they know i'm just a boy in a dress, and not a bio girl. I don't even put on fake boobs, or take a girl's name. I'm just wondering why, that's all. |

Dylan wanted to see something funny last night, and he saw that Bob Burr was playing at the Capital Cities comedy club. He thought that maybe Bob Burr would be funny, as he has appeared on HBO, and had a show on Comedy Central. So, we got dolled up, went down to the Club, paid our $32.00 and prepared to enjoy our evening. Well, it didn't work out quite as planned. Dylan kept asking me if I was alright, and i kep smiling and saying i was having a good time, coz i didn't want to spoil his evening. Little did i know that Dylan thought that Bob Burr sucked as much as i thought he did. He was angry, misogynistic, homophobic, bigoted and racist, and not even funny. And i was glad that the club was dark, and we were not seated t the front. Especially as I was dressed in girls' clothes that night! And, as we, thankfully, left at the end of the show, we both agreed that what appalled us most most not just the show, but the fact that all the people there seemed to think that Bob Burr was so fucking funny, even the girls in the audience. You know, no wonder Dylan and I seem so disconnected from everyone else in society. Bob Burr is obviously becoming a very successful artist, but what is making him so successful is so antithetical to the way that Dylan and I live our lives. And, as i said, we didn't even think he was funny. There's nothing funny in talking about "fags" and "bitches" and how awful women's voices are when they are campaigning. And why all the women in the audience would think that that is funny is totally beyond us. As I said, we were both appalled. I think, for me, it was made even more apparanent by the fact that we had watched Richard Prior the previous evening in his "Here and Now" DVD. Richard Prior was truly an American Treasure. And even his own misogyny was really very funny, tinged as it was with his own self-deprecation. I don't know....... maybe this election will change some deeper parts of the American Psyche. It seems as though the last 8 years have been a celebration of hatred, bigotry and intolerance. And also, coincidently, some kind of exultation of the virtues of over-excessive testosterone. Do you think that, sometime in the next few years, tolerance, sensitivity and compassion will come back into fashion? |

Ya know, we often think that things were better "back in the day", and perhaps modernity is not all it's cracked up to be.....but i want to ask the Republicans...............
Don't you think that having a 2nd depression and a 3rd world war is taking things just little too far? |
